On Bolt-On Neck Models: The serial number is stamped into the neck plate. On Neck-Thru Body Models: The serial number is stamped into the fingerboard at the last fret. The below information was taken directly from Jackson Guitars website. In 1989, Charvel/Jackson merged with the Japanese manufacturer IMC. The Serial Number Charts Refer to USA-made Jackson & Charvel instruments only. Whereas the Californian guitars were essentially hand-built, custom instruments, the Japanese instruments were assembly line versions and categorised by model numbers. The fact that the pups are "Duncan Designed" don't posture that guitar well in the Jackson heirarchy. The success of the 1980s guitars also enabled Jackson to mass produce popular designs in Japan (from 1986). SPECS: -Likely an import -Maple neck (very thin) -Bound rosewood fingerboard with MOP shark fin style inlays -24 frets -Licensed floyd rose made by jackson, looks similar to an Edge trem -Brushed metal parts -HSS with duncan designed PUPs.
Given all that, if Korea was the "low-to-mid" end manufacturing which was later moved to India, and Japan was the "high-mid to just under USA" factory, I'd offer the purely uneducated guess of "that one is a Korean".
Model: Jackson Electric Guitar Serial Number: 6500xxxx. This wasn't always the case though, as mine is a DXMGT-BCS (MG series - ), and it was manufactured in Korea. Get a great deal with this online auction presented by on behalf of a law enforcement or public agency client. The lower end ones, featuring some EMG and Jackson pups ("Duncan Designed") are now made in India.

If the latter is the case, then someone could scratch the silly little "Made in" stickers off and instantly have a "Made in Japan" Jackson.Ī look at the current catalog at the non USA guitars shows that the Pro Series and the X, which feature real SD pups, are made in Japan, as well as the MG series featuring the EMG pups. I'm not a Jackson expert, but mine has the same serial number format as yours but starts with 97 instead of 96, and it was made in Korea (I had the Made in Korea sticker on mine until about a week ago.)Ī search yeilds conflicting information such as "Japanese guitars have 6 serial numbers" and then some saying their Jackson with the same serial formats as ours are Japanese.
